Friends & Flowers

Flowers brighten my yard and my mood – friends brighten my life.

All winter I look forward to spring and flowers popping up. I plant bulbs in the fall to help make sure I have early flowers to enjoy. I love watching the flowering trees “pop” to life, coloring the countryside in the spring. I also look forward to time with my friends. I enjoy an email “popping” in my box from a friend or a card in the mailbox.

There have been times I have left a new, little, plant in the flower bed…unsure if it was a flower coming up or a weed. Every now and then…we find out a person wasn’t a friend at all…but more like a weed, choking out the good, positive growth. It’s okay to weed those out of your life’s flower bed.

I can easily lose track of time when working in the flower beds. I wander outside with a cup of morning’s coffee or a glass of iced tea and I notice a plant needs watered, a weed needs pulled and OH!, what is that new flower blooming? Pretty soon, the time has flown by. Again, the time will fly when I have lunch once a week with my best friend. The lunch hour that day is the shortest of the week, I swear!! We sometimes write notes so we don’t forget to tell the other one an important story. Our lunches are flowered with laughter.  Often we forget more than we remember … and we have to follow our lunch with an email or text!

Don’t you love running into friends that you don’t see nearly often enough but yet, you can fall back into conversation like you were still high school girlfriends or college roommates? Like wandering the aisles of a garden store, I am drawn to my favorites, yet it is always nice to find a new friend along the way.

Friends and flowers are gifts to help us enjoy this life.

Friends gave the gift of flowers in memory of a life that is remembered and missed, yet still beautiful in our memories. Like flowers, life isn’t forever and it is meant to be appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you, friend.

Love this post, Marla! Makes me think of my childhood best friend and so many others! Friends where you can be away, yet still be so connected that you can pick up where you left off are the best! Enjoy the imagery you include in your posts, too! Thanks for sharing : )
