Joie de Vivre

pronounced: zhwa-d-veev

Joy of Life.

This phrase is often heard in New Orleans.  I love it.  It is an attitude toward life.  I would much rather someone say about me that I have Joie de Vivre than … “That girl has a bad attitude.”

A Google search defined the phrase as, “Something extra – like the extra donut in a baker’s dozen.”  Nice.

What if we treated people with that attitude?  Go the extra mile.  Provide a favor instead of expect a favor.  Dollop on a small treat or bonus.  Top it off with a smile!  Would your corner of the world become sweeter?

I kept pondering the phrase … then I remembered that is the name of the hotel chain we have reservations at for vacation.  🙂  Coincidence that I just learned the pronunciation and meaning!?  I think not.  I don’t want the meaning to be only for vacation though.  I want it to be a life-long attitude in my heart.
