‘Tis the Season

‘Tis the season to be cranky … blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah blaahhh….

I had the grandiose (for me) idea of decking my kitchen cabinet-tops with pre-lit garland.  It would be be-yoo-ti-ful!  I measured and shopped.

Saturday morning … time for the decorating to begin!  I pulled the garland out of the shopping bags and re-checked the lights.  They worked!  I grabbed a kitchen chair to reach the cabinet-tops in order to take down the cookie jars to make room for the garland.  Not quite tall enough.  I climbed up on the counter.  Too tall.  I would need to work at a crooked, hunch-backed, angle.

Ewwww.  It looked liked I hadn’t dusted up there since, well, uhm, ever?  I took cookie jars down.  I washed cookie jars.  I chased the cats away from the garland as it was bringing out their instinct to chew.  I climbed back up and began dusting deep-cleaning.  The dust-balls were floating around the kitchen like dirty snow.  I climbed back down and got the Shark dust-buster for disposing of dust-balls and ladybug carcasses.  I chased the cats away from the garland again, this time with the Shark.  I climbed back up.  I spotted the fly-swatter and refrigerator coil-cleaning brush pushed way to the back of the refrigerator.  Ta-dah!  An idea!  The coil-cleaning brush helped me reach the corners of the cabinets, where, even standing on my tippy-toes on the counter, I couldn’t otherwise reach.  I hopped down and chased the cats away from the garland with the coil-cleaning brush.  Finally!  Kitchen cabinet-tops clean enough to eat off of.  Kitchen counter and floor … not!  I placed the garland upon the kitchen cabinet-tops …… and realized I didn’t measure correctly.  Hmmpf.

I went in search of an extension cord to plug my handiwork in.  I put on a load of laundry.  I climbed back to the top of the kitchen counter.  Why am I here?  Oh yeah, I am supposed to be looking for an extension cord.  I jumped down.  A chocolate craving hit.  After soothing that, I found an extension cord.  Plugged the lights in … and they worked!  I danced a holiday jig.

My 21-year old son came in the kitchen and said it looked really pretty.  Awwwww.  🙂  My grinch-y heart grew 3 times its normal size.

Maybe there’s hope for me after all.

Very impressive! Cleaning AND decorating! It’s amazing how dirty the top of the fridge gets but we rarely see it. And why do I feel like such a terrible housekeeper when I finally notice it? Strange.
