Don’t let that adorableness fool you:
I meant to blog on Friday…then, of course, I got distracted. When the UPS driver delivered a package, he told me about a bald eagle he spied nearby. I yelled for my son to come with me, grabbed the camera …. and got some cool pictures!
Warning: There is a dead deer in the picture. Nature at work; but it might not be for everyone.
Tonight, we are off to enjoy the Candle Light Walk on the General Dacey Trail! It should be a gorgeous evening for it! To learn more, check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DaceyTrail
Happy trails to you, friends!
Whew! Excellent capture! Did you see the kill?

That bird was so magnificent! I believe the deer probably got hit on the road, then ran a few yards into the field before dying because I had seen the deer lying there (already dead) earlier in the day.
bert looks like breakfast 😎
If he climbs over that gate sometime when Larry/Pig-farmer isn’t home…he WILL be breakfast! 😉
wow.. stunning shot.. c
Hello to you! I assume you mean the eagle and not Bert?! 😉
Reblogged this on Beef and Sweet Tea and commented:
Marla over at JustMaketheCoffee.com consistently has the most amusing animal pictures and captions. I had forgotten how much I enjoy them…
…there are so many lovely blogs out there that it’s easy to lose track of them from time to time in the traffic…
Thankfully, we bumped into each other again this week and I’ve spent a lovely half hour roaming about her site this Sunday morning…
…I highly recommend it….it goes well with coffee, hot chocolate and whatnot.
The first picture (of Bert the hog teasing about jumping the fence) gave me a start. It’s really not funny, Bert! I have visions of five of my donkeys doing this exact thing this past Thursday, right before they moved to the subdivision to our north. Bah! Get back behind the fence, Bert!
But besides that bit of startle, this post from Marla is all smiles and joy in Creation.
Enjoy!
Have a good rest today.
Best,
Emily Grace
I saw an eagle this week, too. I don’t think it was a bald eagle, but it was HUGE and so glorious. Thanks for sharing your pics! I didn’t get any.
Love that office assistant you have. I have one, too, but he prefers to sleep on the mouse or the keyboard making it impossible for me, the boss, to get any work done. I don’t have the heart to fire him. What happened to Bert’s ears? Who’s been chewing on them?
The basket helps (a little) with me getting some work done and keeping her off the laptop! Bert’s ears have been notched. This is done at birth for identification.
I was at the Bald Eagle Weekend at Starved Rock this weekend when I saw your deer/eagle photo. Everyone was most impressed and envious we have such great adult bald eagles in our neighborhood. I note to Emily, the bald eagle does not get his white head until about 5 years old or so. We have quite a few immature bald eagles in our area.
That is great, Judy! I’m glad you saw those photos while you were at Starved Rock. What color are the young eagles’ heads?
The juvenile eagles are brownish. As they age the white feathers come in.
Congrats on the eagle!
The cat has its Jekyll and Hyde moments? I don’t think Bert was listening. He’s a cutie, though. Nice eagle shots! How nice of the UPS driver to share that info with you.
Piggy looks so proud in that second picture. Like he’s saying, “I’m fabulous!”
That was definitely my impression, too! He was/is too cool to be “reprimanded.”
