Central Illinois Weather

Weather fascinates me.  It can make or break you. It is predictably unpredictable. It is moodier than a teenage girl.

Working for an electric cooperative makes me even more interested in the weather.

The five-day forecast shows a chance for ice.  Look at this… a high of 58 today.  In January! Then, that three-letter word:

I am posting this in an effort to scare it away.  If you prepare for the worst, maybe it won’t happen.

Ice makes for some beautiful and interesting pictures, though. So, I dug through my archives and found these from an ice storm in 2011.2011icybarn2011icybranchpic2011icysteer

Now that we have visited those, I think it is sufficient that we don’t experience any this weekend.

Stay tuned, my friends!

  1. Oh No. I worry for the trees. We also live in central illinois, a bit further north than you I think? We don’t have those high temps anyway and the icy rain is here today. Looks like Sunday might be a bad day for ice too. This has been such an inclement year. I hope you do ok down there – do you have sprigs for your boots for when you do your chores? c

My snow boots have pretty good traction with their rubber soles, but I don’t have those sprigs/cleats that you can slip over your boots. We have dropped to about 32 now from our balmy weather yesterday. Good luck to you!!

Hope your plan works!! We had some ice last weekend, followed by about 8 inches of snow…. BUT, for the past couple of days, the temps have been warm enough to thaw everything. It’s so nice to be mobile again! Good luck – let us know how it goes.

  3. We experienced just this in Birmingham last week-end. This city is NOT prepared for ice. Too many hills and not enough equipment. Now this week we’re having 70+ degrees temps or just under 70 for the next 10 days. Go figure.

  4. I hope it does scare it away! Predictably, unpredictable. Wonderful ice images ..

It’s pretty to look at, as long as we don’t have to deal with all the negative aspects!
